Maris Piper
With its pleasant floury texture, Maris Pipers are ideal for many potato dishes from chips and roast potatoes, mash and wedges. Maris Piper is one of the best known and popular potato varieties (over 80% of our potatoes are Maris Piper). It is a great favourite with fish and chip shops because it is so reliable, has a creamy coloured flesh and although technically its skin is white to yellow in colour, it is regarded as a ‘white’ potato. Maris Piper potatoes are suitable for: Chips, Jacket Potatoes, Wedges, Boiling, Roasting and Mashing.
Désirée
The Désirée is a red-skinned main crop potato originally bred in the Netherlands in 1962. It has yellow flesh with a distinctive flavour and is a favourite with allotment-holders because of its resistance to drought, although it is not well suited to organic growing. It is a versatile, fairly waxy variety which is firm and holds its shape and useful for all methods of cooking; from roasting to mashing and salads.
Estima
Estima potatoes are versatile, and are especially suited for dishes where a firm cooked potato texture is required, such as salads/soups. Estima is also a great baking potato and has a mild taste that complements other flavours. Estima potatoes have a white to yellow skin and light yellow flesh. Estima potatoes are suited to Potato Wedges, Mashing, Boiling and Jacket Potatoes.
Maris Bard
This variety has white skin and white to cream flesh. It has a Soft, waxy texure is suitable for Boiling and Chips.
